Many people are not yet familiar with long coat Chihuahuas as smooth
coat Chihuahuas are most popular.
The biggest difference I¹ve noticed is the adaptability
of long coat Chihuahuas to our Canadian winters. For example, my
long coat Chihuahua Tia at 3 1/4 lbs loves climbing and walking
on top of snow banks and playing in the fresh air and January sunshine,
as oppose to my 5-6 lbs smooth coat Chihuahuas who will begin to
refuse to go outside in December. To accommodate the less enthusiastic,
I always set up an area inside with pee pads.
At Garden River Chihuahuas the biggest difference
between smooth coat and long coat Chihuahuas is that our long coat
Chihuahuas tend to be the very tiny or teacup Chihuahuas, weighing
between 3-4 lbs and our smooth coat Chihuahuas are more standard
Chihuahua size, around 4-6 lbs with an occasional tiny puppy now
and again.
