It is a good idea to set up a puppy area in
the heart of your home before you pick up your new puppy, This safe
enclosed area should contain his/her bed, pee pad, food, water and
toys. This is where you will keep the puppy when you are unavailable
to watch over it. It is also a good idea to check your home and
get rid of anything tiny the puppy can chew on and accidentally
swallow.
3 IMPORTANT LESSONS!
to avoid stepping on or dropping your puppy, as well as keep them
safe from heights.
LESSON No. 1
Teach your puppy to get out of the way when human feet are coming!
I cannot stress this lesson enough! Carefully stomp your feet if
you must, never let them ride on your slippers or play tug of war
with your pant leg. Do not wear shoes in the house, when your puppy
is still young.
LESSON No. 2
Do not let new people, even dog lovers handle your new puppy! Countless
times puppies are dropped by well meaning friends and family, who
do not want to squeeze or hurt the wiggling puppy, and they accidentally
drop them.
A good rule of thumb is to sit on the floor to play with a new puppy,
this should be mandatory for young children.
LESSON No. 3
Your chihuahua puppy may be a monkey, but do not let them climb!
Some chihuahuas really are like monkeys. The problem is they jump
off crazy high heights which could lead to serious injury. Never
leave your puppy unattended on your sofa or bed.
